Enjoy our Field Trips

Our field trips are open to anyone who wants to participate. You don't have to be a member of Audubon or our local chapter to join the fun. But after you have come on several of our trips, we think you'll want to join and support us.
New Time for Qysterville/Leadbetter Field Trip

The New Start Time for our 4/25 field trip to Oysterville West Beach Access and Leadbetter Point State Park is 10:15 am, instead of 8:30 am. The reason for the change is to better align with the feeding of the shorebirds. If we start at 8:30 am, we hit Oysterville too early and with the higher water, the birds will be dispersed. We would also arrive at Willapa Bay before the flats are exposed and we will miss the peak feeding concentration window. More info about this field trip is available here.
Porter Point Loop Hike

Friends of Willapa National Wildlife Refuge have a fun hike coming up, their last one for 2024! There is still room on this adventure to join Rebecca Lexa, certified Master Naturalist, as she guides you on a fall hike at the Porter Point Loop on Sunday, October 6, from 10am to 12pm. Space is limited, so please register on our Event page to attend this free hike: https://friendsofwillaparefuge.org/Events
The hike will begin looking across Willapa Bay and a tidal marsh where shorebirds and raptors are often seen. The trail then forms a loop where you enter a cedar wetland before climbing and descending to the ridgetop of Porter Point. Here you will see views of the Bay, including Long Island, as well as the Columbia River on a clear day! This hike is 2.4-miles and moderately difficult.
Meet at Willapa National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters, in the parking lot at the end of 67th Place, Long Beach.
